Season's Round Up # 16: RAOUL CRUISE 2013 PRESS DAY

Raoul Cruise 2013 RTW Women's Wear Press Day

A few weeks back I was invited to attend a press presentation for Raoul's Cruise 2013 RTW Women's Wear Collection and I left the event feeling a sense of deja vu. Don't get me wrong; I don't think it's a bad thing. I actually thought it was rather refreshing in a nostalgic way. The collection I saw embodied a spirit of frivolity and fun, very much like what we've seen in the recent SS2012 collections. Expect to see a barrage of huge floral and geometric prints straight off the 70's, bold patterns and pastel colors to brighten up your day. Further to this, Raoul's Cruise 2013 bridges well from FW2012 where jewel toned colors reign. Expect to see green and cranberry used throughout the collection, on top of latte and pastel pink splashed onto classic-cut tailoring, peplum and of course mouth-watering evening dresses.

It is in these that I say "deja vu!" as these elements are well-used throughout the 2012 season. But that being said, I think it's executed with exquisite perfection wherein not only will it tide us over into 2013 but it brings with it a sense of laid back nostalgia, which honestly is what the spirit of luxury vacationing beholds.

Nostalgic it may be, but I think Raoul has designed a collection that is unique in itself driven by the interplay of materials from stretch cotton to silk georgette and one of my absolute faves would be the pieces in silk Crepe de Chine. Apart from this, expect to find Raoul's brilliant use of colour blocking amidst a growing expertise in what is aptly dubbed as print blocking. Variety of pieces is another area which I think they have done quite well this season, where you can find tunic tops, slim trousers, bow-blouses, canvas dresses, Peter Pan double-breasted coats and as mentioned earlier evening wear. There will definitely be something that will suit your taste and liking - whether you're looking for an outfit for a weekend yachting or an ensemble that will make you shine in an evening cocktail or dinner party.

RAINY DAY NEWS REPORTER

It's been raining quite heavily here in Singapore the past few days and I thought it would be the best time to wear one of the pieces I was able to scrunch up from the Marni at H&M collection. And the end look I must say I loved!

I was teased though that I looked like a field news reporter - as the yellow vest with a hood is somewhat a staple uniform for them during the rainy season back in the Philippines. Nonetheless, I'd say I'm a reporter with flair and panache!

MUSINGS of a BLOGGER in the CORPORATE WORLD
a.Fasione

Occasionally, I allow my readers to get a glimpse into my own personal world - with all the swirling thoughts and nuances that get stuck in one's head each and every day, I think it's only healthy to find a decent source of release. Otherwise, we'll all go bonkers.

As I stare at the screen, looking at this get-up I'm sharing with everyone, I feel a sense of nostalgia with how I seemingly look out onto the world. It reminded me of that sense of determination I had prior to joining the corporate world - the willingness and eager urge to succeed and make a name for myself...somewhere. After 5 whole years of being in the business, I find myself wondering. There comes a point in time when we all reach a certain crossroad and you just pause and contemplate about how things are going.

Personally, I can honestly say that I still have that sense of passion for what I do in the corporate world. Otherwise, I wouldn't be basking in the feelings of both joy & frustration, each of us experience everyday at work. But then again, I pause and ponder about the sheer happiness and elation I also feel when I get to write and share my views with those of you who deign to read and visit this blog; as well as the frustration I experience when I don't get to update as much because of the hectic time I have in the "real world". I then ask myself, is it still the same passion or am I experiencing something bigger?

5 years in, I realize now that living and breathing the corporate world is both a trying and rewarding experience. Rewarding, as if you're one of the few lucky ones, deemed worthy enough by a corporate giant to join their ranks - you get to experience and live the fast-paced life in a big & bustling city, earn sufficiently to live decently and hopefully of course find that satisfaction in doing a job that you're passionate to do. Trying, on the other hand, in the sense that it takes out so much from you - time, energy and effort - and whether that's properly recognized or not is debatable to the say the least. But at the end of the day, if you love what you do - it shouldn’t matter at all.

I then realize it all boils down to one thing in the end – what is it that you love to do? You see it’s not about passion and determination; it’s about love. Love is the vehicle, whilst the former would be your fuel that allows you to trudge on. It's what makes this world go round to say the least. And with that I end this with a thought – what is it that I love to do? My answer: for now, I can still honestly say that it’s both; it’s still both. But then, what about you?

(Blazer from Zara, Printed Shirt & Brooch from Burberry Prorsum, Shoes from Raoul, Bracelets from Hermes and Yves Saint Laurent) As an homage to the recently launched blog of one of my dear friends Apples [who happens to be a fasione-ista mayora, divine PRP judge and PR maven] I'm sharing this photo of myself that she recently took and posted on her Instagram a few days back. Thought I might as well share the look on my blog as I was quite pleased with it as well. Do catch and follow Apples' weekly blog [CLICK HERE] on Mega online where she'll be featuring heaps of industry news, fashion tidbits and whatever else my fantabulous friend's heart would desire! Fabulosity rules doesn't it?

RAOUL MAY MAILER FEATURE

I've been very quiet the past week or so and it's just a testament of how crazy busy I've been, which is why you guys haven't heard from me in a while. And in spite of the fact that I took a few days off to rest - thinking I could use the time to add up a few more blog posts before May ended - I think my body was just screaming "rest up" as I got sick in any case. Anyway, since I wasn't able to end the month of May quite properly, thought it might be a good segue to begin June. Capping off last month's momentous collaboration with burgeoning fashion brand Raoul is this feature of the work I've done on their monthly e-newsletter for the month of May. I'm just so thankful for the opportunity that they've given to me to work with them as I truly adore the style sensibilities that the brand has and it works quite well with my own approach to fashion and style. Click on the mailer to find out of their various offerings for the month of May, as well as for snippets of the recently concluded Fall-Winter Women's Show at the Audi Fashion Festival [CLICK HERE for my REVIEW of the SHOW]. Oh! And as a final hurrah, check out some of the BLOOPER/EXTRA PHOTOS from the day of the shoot. Enjoy!

INDUSTRIAL YIN YANG: LOOK 9

And finally I present the final look in the INDUSTRIAL YIN YANG collection I've styled for Raoul. For the last look, I used one of the pieces from the Cruise collection, which I thought would transcend quite well into the spring-summer season. I just loved the striped sporty detail, which felt very modern and contemporary. Pairing it with an olive green short pant, alongside closed-toe sandals from Raoul's past seasons gave the look a very sporty casual feel to it. I further accessorized with bangles from the Marni at H&M collection to add a bit of spunk.
