Season's Round Up # 65: PROENZA SCHOULER FALL-WINTER 2013

This season we see Proenza Schouler breaking convention by going softer and fresher with clothes that's extremely wearable. The Proenza boys are known for playing with color and angles but this season we see them explore the softer palette of the color graph alongside exploring the sense of touch through texture.

It's definitely one of the more interesting #NYFW shows and I have to say, finally a collection from the Proenza boys that is still in the realm of high fashion yet wearable and approachable. It had a clinical sense yet it maintained sultry and sensual. The silhouettes broke the convention of tight-hugging sexiness if I may say so myself. Simply superb and definitely one to add into your FW wardrobe essentials this year.

Season's Round Up # 33: PROENZA SCHOULER SPRING-SUMMER 2013

Proenza Schouler is perhaps one of fashion world's most influential brands. Hordes and hordes of fashion's elite flock to their show and this season is no different. I heard it was done in a far-off location in a dilapidated building, reflecting the misshapen beauty that is their SS2013 Women's RTW Collection.

This season, we see the boys of Proenza using collages throughout the collection as a means of a template to create beautiful pieces out of seemingly disjointed materials and patterns. You'll see a lot of snake skin prints, electric hues from blues and greens to reds and oranges and clean straight lines. It's not only in the texture where we'll see diversity this season, the materials used in the collection contrasted with each other from leather to flowy chiffon and even denim, creating a sense of dynamism in the pieces. Next season seems to bring about a sense of street chic meet punk rock or even Oriental looks into Futurism. At the end of it though, it's a collection that imbibes a sense of youthfulness and energy - things that are much needed for the season in any case. Kudos once again to the infallible Jack and Lazaro!

PROENZA SCHOULER BOOK BAG

Proenza Schouler Book Bag in Black

Proenza Schouler has been on a roll of late. Apart from the release of the PS1 Wallet on Chain[CLICK HERE to FIND OUT MORE] they also launched a new shoulder bag called the Book Bag. Retailing for USD1550, it's available in black and chestnut, which are classic colors for a classic bag. It has a leather flap front with a gold push lock closure and simple but stated buckle detailing.

Inside, there are two compartments and one inner zip pocket, which makes it fairly roomy to fit all your daily essentials on top of any work documents or travel essentials; making it the perfect workbag or travel/weekend bag. Much like most of the brand's bags, it also has an inner pouch pocket with a removable mirror.

If a classic looking piece is not your thing, there are variations available at Barneys NY. My favorite of those available would have to be the one in red, which is in a smaller size compared to the classic pieces. Alternatively, there are options in black pony hair and jacquard as well if you're after something a bit more trendy.

It seems like Proenza Schouler is capitalizing on the uptrend growth of Chanel's iconic Wallet on Chain[aka WOC] with the launch of their very own rendition of the WOC in the PS1 design. Everyone is clamoring about the latest addition to the PS1 family and who wouldn't? It's such a beautiful piece! Measuring 8"x2.5"x5.75", I think it's just the perfect size for an evening out or even for carrying your travel essentials. The strap is 60" long with a 25" drop. Available in 7 colors - classic black, midnight, raspberry, birch, lipstick, lemon and purple rain[CLICK on the COLORS to SEE PHOTOS and PURCHASE]- it's a brilliant move to make it available in almost every color of the rainbow. What I love about this piece is that the chain is removable and you can actually use it as a regular wallet. It has one interior pocket with a front slit for bits and bobs, as well as a zipped pocket at the back. 6 credit cards can fit snugly into each one and I believe there would be 2 pouch pockets as well. Oh and the bonus you might ask or rather the advantage it has over the Chanel WOC [apart from the price of course] is that it has a mirror! Perfect for instant retouching.

Color-wise my top 3 would definitely have to be the midnightraspberry, and lemon as you see in the photos above. But my absolute fave would have to be the one in raspberry. Available via Proenza Schouler online [by the way, they do ship internationally] it retails for USD785, which is honestly not a bad price at all considering the utility you can get out of it. And if you can muster enough to purchase a Chanel WOC, why not get several colors of this beauty while you're at it!

PROENZA SCHOULER PS11 FW 2012 BAGS
PS11 Mini Classic Leather Shoulder Bag
PS11 Mini Classic Leather Shoulder Bag

FW2012 heralds in the onslaught of Proenza Schouler's PS11 Bags in variation of shapes and sizes that will fit any fasione-ista's bag needs. I've been enamored by the design of the PS11 for quite some time as I think it has that IT factor anyone should look for in a bag. Be it the tote or the shoulder bag, I love how it stands out in a crowd due to the simplicity and the unmistakable trademark it has as a design. First up would be the current bane of my existence - the PS11 Classic Shoulder Bag. Don't get me wrong, I adore this bag! If I can have it in all the colors available, I would've started collecting months ago. And I guess herewith lies the problem, I just want it so bad that I can't stop thinking about it! Available in 2 sizes - the mini and the regular size - it's perfect regardless, which you'll take as it can fit all the daily essentials you carry around. The design is as sleek as any shoulder bag can get and what I love about it is the versatility in terms of use - it'll be perfect as a weekend bag out and about in the streets or even as a nice workbag that transitions into a handy evening clutch. Retailing for almost USD 1700 for the mini [such as the hot orange number you see above via Bergdorf Goodman] and about USD 1900 for the bigger one [much like the ones below in emerald and classic black, which is available via Bergdorf Goodman and MyTheresa respectively]; it's an investment worth making given the mileage you'll get out of this baby.

Alternatively, if a shoulder bag isn't your thing, you can opt for the new and improved PS11 Shopping Tote as you see below. It's big and roomy enough to be - well as the name suggests, a shopping tote or even as a travel bag. For this piece, I'd highly suggest going with a classic color given the battering it can get when you bring it our for shopping or travel trips. Though fret not, Proenza also made sure that those who love a splash of color won't be disappointed.

What I love with the new and improved version are the front pockets that can fit things you need to grab quick - like keys, metro card or coins. Further, they've added in a detachable strap that you can use to lug it around on your shoulder when you get tired of hand carrying it. It's absolutely fantabulous! Available as well in 2 sizes, small and large, it retails for about USD 2000 and USD 2300 respectively. If you're interested with the black one above it is available via Net-a-Porter[just note that it's the large size].

See below some of the other variations that I think are note-worthy, and I'm lusting after:

Fall-Winter is almost here and with the change of seasons, a slew of new designer pieces are now ripe for the taking. I've always been enamored by the ability of Proenza Schouler to churn out pieces that have an understated sense of elegance and classicism and this has been part of the brand's appeal. There came a point though when what they've produced became too staple and boring - speaking specifically of their leather goods - but I think they've turned the tides of late and this season is no different as they've taken their leather goods collection to a whole new level!

The PS1 Pouch and Keepall looks divinely rejuvenated as they channel the vibe and feel of Chanel in this quilted black number accentuated with gold detailingI personally think it looks luxurious and rich and just screams decadent elegance. I love the touch of the gold chain on the pouch as well, which is definitely a new and interesting twist. Apart from that I am seriously lusting after the PS11 Classic, which is available in this deep forest green color. Personally I would have preferred it if the hardware was in gold as opposed to silver, but hey who's complaining? It looks just as elegantly rich and classy regardless. Retailing for around USD 1950,[or about SGD 2300, if I'm not mistaken, at OnPedder] I honestly think it's a steal for something that can last you lifetimes.

Apart from the bags, their shoes are also of note - specifically the boots and pumps you see on display. I actually think these pieces are classic looking enough to last you a couple of seasons or more - definitely worth the investment if you ask me. Still waiting for details on pricing for some of these pieces so as soon as I hear any, will update you all. For now, we'll all have to wait at the starting line to race to the finish - the finish being purchasing one of these gorgeous pieces!

THE GREAT CHANEL WEEKEND

It was an amazing weekend to say the least. I spent the weekend catching up and going around with my dear friend Anj [don’t you just love her rings??  Gorgeous!!] and I guess saying “we painted the town red” is not enough. The past 2 days has been spent brunching and shopping all over Singapore’s main shopping thoroughfares and as such, when you combine me and another manic shopper, damage was done. That said, I think I can safely say that it did more good than bad; soothing out our work weary selves with enough fashion sustenance to last a few months [I think more so Anj than me LOL! I still want a pair of shoes – you’ll find out later what I mean]

Spring-Summer 2012 is in full bloom in stores and we got a taste of some of the finest pieces such as these gorgeous printed sandals from Proenza Schouler

…to these delectable calf-skin [though I seriously thought they were lamb because of the buttery soft treatment!] Chanel Quilted Sneakers

…to the past 2 days’ purchases such as these gorgeous Céline Shades…

and our belle de jour, Anj’s Chanel Chic Quilt from the Spring-Summer 2012 collection.

I absolutely adore this bag.  It’s like a pumped up version of the Classic Flap with its buttery soft calfskin leather to its gleaming sheen and of course the same versatility in terms of usage. Oh it’s more economical to boot! Available in 2 sizes, I prefer the one Anj bought vs. the bigger piece as the bigger one loses its semblance to the Classic Flap.

Well, more stories to come about this amazing weekend. I’m still in the hunt for Spring-Summer 2012 statement shoes – contemplating on these gorgeous Chanel Quilted Sneakers or Prada’s Kiltie Golf Shoes that are unfortunately out of stock in my size everywhere. Darn it! Updates definitely to follow if my luck permits it but for now, I must bid you all adieu as it’s time for me to hit the hay sack! Seriously poofed and I’m up for another challenging workweek. So till the next update then!
