Season's Round Up # 64: MARC JACOBS FALL-WINTER 2013

As per usual the creativity of Marc Jacobs knows no bounds. His runway for FW2013 was literally an enigma - depicting the sun going down on a circular runway. The opening in itself felt like the end of days - see for yourself.

The collection itself was a mixture of simplicity and beautiful garishness - bringing to life a chic and sophisticated woman but one with an underlying sinister-ness lurking. The clothes had simple lines with a focus on sparkle and metal - seemingly bringing to life the end of days thematic through a futuristic take on space and fashion. Some of my favorite pieces include the slinky pyjama suits in molten gold, fur coats that were inspired by the 40's or 50's and of course being a fan of the garment itself, the multitude of blazers that cascaded down the runway.

Season's Round Up # 32: MARC JACOBS SPRING-SUMMER 2013 SHOWS

Marc Jacobs is a true fashion genius. His 2 shows during NYFW were well-received and it’s because each show is as refreshing as the last.

For his Marc Jacobs SS2013 Women’s RTW Line, we’ll see a collection that is stripe-d down, a far cry from the previous season’s that showcased a lot of layers, textures and patterns. The focal point of the collection would be the use of stripes and it’s a welcome change. The models looked like fashionable prisoners – in an amazing way! All in all it was a sparse, casual and lean showing, evoking a sense of modernized 60’s mod. Everything was clean and very much so focused on the basics of fashion. And I thought that in these elements, his sheer brilliance just shown.

The Marc by Marc Jacobs show is a whole another story. Though we still see stripes throughout the collection, seemingly as the thread of his SS2013 inspiration, the pieces from his sub-line is much more vibrant. Here you’ll see that layering and patterns rule the runway. Vibrancy is still very much in effect and I guess it’s hard to tone that down if that is your label’s backbone. That being said, I enjoyed this show very much so. It was fun, vivacious and uber chic! Don’t mind getting caught wearing pieces from this show next season.

Seems like I'm obsessed with the color blue in the past few looks I've posted. I just loved the fun playful prints from Prada's Spring Summer 2012 collection and this was definitely on the top of my list! (Blazer from Zara, Shirt from Prada, Brooch from Burberry Prorsum, Trousers by Black Label, Shoes from Marc Jacobs)

I tried to have pants tailor made here in Singapore and I couldn't find any decent ones until a dear friend of mine introduced me to this one called Black Label. The gray slacks I'm wearing right now is one of their pieces and I just love how comfy and customized to me it felt. I'll write more about them in the coming days so for now, enjoy this sneak peak of their work.

Day 3 in Seoul was spent mostly in 2 areas - the magnificent Changdeok Palace - and in Gangnam-Gu. This was a pivotal day for me as it really brought attention to the beauty and wonders that Seoul has to offer – from it’s historic places to the amazing nature and of course FOOD! Changdeok Palace offered a plethora of wonders that inspired me nonstop. We went around the area and toured the Secret Gardens. Our tour guide showed us amazing photos of how different the gardens can be depending on the season and the photos were enough to convince me that I need to come back during spring and fall. That doesn't mean I wasn't happy with what I already saw. I think it's an understatement when I say it was an explosion of creative inspiration - myriads and thousands of colors and patterns that bombard your senses wherever you look; mind you I'm just sharing the visual feast. You have to experience the creative explosion your senses will have when you're there - from the melodic sound of birds to the sweet scent of fresh air.

Elbon Korea
Elbon Korea

We ended the day by rewarding ourselves with a hearty dinner at Elbon, which I believe is found in Ganganam-Gu. It's a unique business idea mixing fashion, nature and delectable food in one - as they say, "to bring out the noble in you". And it does live up to its reputation and of course, a noble's standards. Our palate's had a food orgasm; well I leave that for you to judge based on these delectable photos.
