Season's Round Up # 50: LAST FEW SS13 PFW FAVE SHOWS

Busy does not even encompass the amount of craziness my week has been. Preoccupied with work, visitors and events [oh and I missed out on 2 already :(] on top of falling ill - are just some of the highlights. In any case, since I haven't had time to take a breather and my week is just about to begin again, I thought I'd just share some of the last few SS2013 Women's RTW shows that I just adored. I know they're already done and over with but I couldn't help myself - these shows are just amazing! CHANEL

Extravagance as a word is not enough to describe this HUGE ASS show! From the ginormous runway and spinning windmills to the larger than life silhouettes, patterns and pearls featured on the runway to the of course infamous Chanel Hula Hoop Bag - it's a show that just screams glam and bam! No other designer could have pulled this off other than the Maestro Lagerfeld himself no? This enormous show deserves ENORMOUS LOVE and I'm sure Chanel addicts will be waiting with bated breath to grab a piece here and there when the collection comes out.

LOUIS VUITTON

How do you beat a carousel or a train themed fashion show? Why with checked escalators and runways of course! Duh! Season after season, Marc Jacobs brings whimsy and fantasy to Louis Vuitton's shows and it's this brilliant match of fancy and amazing designs that have propelled the label into one of the BIGGEST, if not BIGGEST fashion houses in the world. This season is no different where we see Monsieur Marc push the envelope even further. Checks and seemingly stencilled floral prints would be this season's inspiration, layered with electric hues that would be enough to dazzle one's fancy for fashion. I love how he's used squares and grids, which the label is well-known for via their Damier print and reinvented it. Guess we'll be seeing a ton of checked out fasioneistas next season huh?

MC QUEEN

I guess it's enough to say that bees were Burton's inspiration for her SS13 Women's RTW Collection. And it was definitely a sweet sweet victory for her as the collection stung like a bee! If you weren't stung by the Mc Queen Bee this season, I don't know under which rock you've been hiding - you'll need to get out and get stung girl! It was sheer brilliance - colors, patterns and prints were reminiscent of beehives, honey and bees themselves. Though the fashion pieces felt more like couture vs. RTW, I think the show's highlight would be its accessories. Fasioneistas all over will definitely be lusting after the shoes, bags, clutches and jewellery that came down the runway. And who could ignore those gorgeous and fashion forward beekeeper hat? I definitely couldn't! Thinking of getting one myself! Lol Guess the Mc Queen Bee stung me that bad ;)

Season's Round Up # 8: MUGLER, MC QUEEN & SIMONS SPRING SUMMER 2013 MENSWEAR HIGHLIGHTS

With the SS2013 Menswear Collections nearing it's fruition and the SS2013 Couture Shows just a week away, I thought I would write about highlights of some of the other designers that I thought had a good showing the past few days - MUGLER

First up would be the work of Nicola Formichetti for the avant garde house of Mugler. This season, much like most fashion houses, we saw Formichetti exploring and playing with black & white colors – difference is the play is in its duality. We also saw a lot of unique and architecturally inspired cuts that is oh so rare in menswear. The whole collection felt very empowering and edgy, given the razor sharp cutout dominant couture that went down the runway. Though I must say, the collection is not as easily wearable/accessible as those of other designers, given its fashion forward feel. At the same time, it is because of this differentiating vibe that made the collection stand out and there are pieces -specifically the accessories & footwear - that I must say are worth the investment for SS2013. One of which would be the gorgeous cutout sandals available in a wide selection of neutral colors, and of course the reptile inspired belts and shoes in bright hues.

ALEXANDER MC QUEEN

I have very little to say about the Mc Queen collection from Sarah Burton - but all in good faith. It had a very simple, yet ethereal theme, focusing on designs that evoked a modern day take on the character of Dorian Gray. Color and texture played dominantly in the collection that brought to life the idea of a present day dapper gentleman. The looks above are amongst my favorites given the distinctive play of metallic colors that evoked a sense of varying textures. I also adored the use of dragonflies as a print on the ensembles, which I thought evoked a renewed sense of eeriness and whimsy vs. the brand's use of it's classic skull print. If these looks are not to your liking, fret not as the collection had a LOT of pieces that are more suited to everyday wear.

RAF SIMONS

With the pressure on for the showing of his very first couture collection for the house of Dior next week, Raf Simons has stepped up to the plate and shown the world why he is Creative Director with the eccentric SS2013 Menswear collection he launched this week. Androgyny was a central theme mixed with the powerful influence of art. I adored the contrast of tailored and constrained tops with the free spirit vibe of uber short shorts & sneakers - perfect mix of free-flowing form & function. Much like other collections, the color scheme was focused on somber shades of grays, blacks & whites with the occasional showing of bright colors like tangerine and grapefruit. What I thought was inspired would have to be the use of abstract art, reminiscent of Picasso's works, on shirts - where as the collection progressed more and more you see it on gender-bending pieces. Definitely would love to have those sleeveless long shirts that he paired with shorts - very fashion forward!

MC QUEEN SEEING RED & PURPLE

Check out this Alexander Mc Queen Skull Scarf my shopping buddy Ann bought from one of her recent trips to London - gorgeous isn't it? She's been clamoring for one and finally she's found one that she wanted to buy. Seeing this piece of beauty got me thinking - should I get one myself? I don't know if skulls are my thing in all honesty, which is why I haven't gotten around picking up accessories from the renowned designer brand. But come to think of it - it is uber cool and fasione - no better way to add a bit of glam rock to one's look. What do you guys think? Is it a nay or yay for me?
