Season’s Round Up # 57: ALEXANDER WANG FALL-WINTER 2013

Black, white and bray [with a hint of brownish-red] ruled Mr. Wang's runway for FW2013 and it was a collection that I believe paid homage to his signature style of sportswear and New York grit.

Overall I think it was an interesting show where Wang showcased his penchant and brilliance in playing with textures, mixing sporty toughness and feminine glam and in showcasing innovative pieces - such as the balaclavas, mule-clog hybrids and A4 folio filing bags. It was the perfect amalgamation of street smart and elegant and softness.

So the question remains - is this a showcase of things to come when Balenciaga hits the runway in Paris? I think the collection works for Wang's eponymous label but for Balenciaga I'm not so sure. I'm just hoping Wang got this creative aesthetic off his system already so that he'd have a different creative input to the Balenciaga show. So I guess we'll have to wait and see.
