2014 flew by so fast and here we are a year later celebrating the dawn of a new year. I'm sure, most of you have been going to a ton of holiday parties and who can blame you? After all 'tis the season! It is just fair and right to celebrate the year that has been and the year that is to be. After all, life is about living it up and welcoming the new.

Segue then to a New Year's tradition that I'm sure everyone's all so familiar with - that ever elusive NEW YEAR'S RESOLUTION'S LIST. Personally I'm keeping my list quite sweet and short this year - focusing on key must do's. One that I'm sharing right now is the quest for GOOD HEALTH - encompassing everything from exercising regularly to taking care of my skin.

I have to say, I started using beauty products early on - being acne prone and all since my youth - but that has also made me fickle with the products I use. This 2015, I have to say one of my resolutions is to keep up with a fairly healthy and manageable beauty routine. Something that I've been sticking to even before 2015 rolled in, which I must say has helped keep my skin as healthy as it has ever been!

Looking at the photos you must think - "what the heck is he talking about? That doesn't seem manageable!" Trust me - it is or at least to me it is. I stick to a simple 4-step regime: CLEANSE, TONE, PRIME and MOISTURISE. To some this may be a lot, but believe me it's worth the extra effort.

STEP 1: CLEANSE. Basic cleansing is a MUST - a twice a day must. It's a basic necessity that ensures thorough removal of all the dirt, pollution and bacteria your face has accumulated throughout the day. If there is one step in the entire process one should maintain, it should be this. Considering this is something you do daily, using a mild and gentle cleanser is crucial. As such I am a staunch supporter of Chanel's Skincare Cleansers as they thoroughly cleanse your face, leaving you with that squeaky clean feel yet keeping skin soft and supple - not dry and over-cleansed. I'm currently using the MOUSSE EXFOLIANTE PURETE Rinse-Off Exfoliating Cleansing Foam which have these minuscule beads deemed safe enough for everyday use. Alternatively if you're not a fan of beads, you can use their MOUSSE CONFORT Rinse-Off Rich Foaming Cream Cleanser. You may think this is a little bit pricey but in my humble opinion, it's worth shelling out a few extra dollars. Based on experience, the Chanel cleansers last a good 3-5 months depending on how much product you use. A little goes a long way and if you use cleaning supplements [e.g. Clarisonic brush] like I do, you won't need a lot of the product.

STEP 2: TONE. This is an additional step that a lot of people typically skip - especially those with dry/normal skin as they feel using a toner exacerbates the dryness or may "damage" normal skin. That said, I don't think it's the case for as long as you find the right toner to use. Using a toner actually helps your skin as it prepares it to absorb the ingredients in the last step. Further, a good toner could actually help solve some other skin concerns [e.g. fine lines and pores] you may have. I alternate between the Clinique Clarifying Lotion or the Peter Thomas Roth Glycolic Acid Toning Complex. Normally I would use the Clinique Clarifying Lotion in the mornings as you'll just need a mild toning solution in the AM - well since you haven't really been anywhere but your bed. The good thing about the Clinique Range is that they have a bevy of options depending on your skin type as such it's going to be important for you to identify what your skin type is and choose the right toner for you. I'm currently using Clinique Clarifying Lotion #4 - which is for oily skin.

In the evenings, I use Peter Thomas Roth's Glycolic Acid Toning Complex. It contains 10% glycolic acid - a natural exfoliant derived from cane sugar - which assists in not only gently removing dead skin surfaces but also in minimising the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles and pore size. It's also a good treatment for those who are acne prone. It's a miracle from nature! I swear by it. I recommend using it in the evenings so that it can assist in allowing products you apply at night to penetrate deeper. After all it is at night when your skin is the most receptive to product treatments.

STEP 3 and 4: PRIME & MOISTURISE. I treat the last 2 steps as one as STEP 3 - as I thee dub as "skin priming" is a new step in the facial care regime introduced by SK-II, which to me is almost the same as moisturising. Take a few drops of SK-II's award-winning Facial Treatment Essence, rub them on your palm and softly dab all over the face and neck. What the essence does is to moderate your skin's renewal cycle ensuring that it's always performing at the optimal health level. It's recommended to use this twice a day after cleansing and toning. From time to time, I add another product before moisturising - depending on my skin's needs. If I feel my pores have become unhinged (!), I would pat on a few drops of Estee Lauder's Idealist Pore Minimising Finisher in the evening. Alternatively, if I've had a stressful week or a late evening at work or a night out - I would just boost my skin with a touch of collagen from Skin Inc. Collagen Serum. Would be good to use it in the morning as well to give your skin a bit of bounce and healthy glow.

Post that your skin is now ready to be quenched! Moisturisers are ever important in this day and age especially with the threat of overexposure to pollution, stress and free radicals. Moisturisers have a 2-fold purpose - 1) it helps treat skin while keeping it hydrated and 2) protects your skin from harmful elements. As such it's truly crucial to add this into your beauty regimens. I use a variety of moisturisers but only ever stick to 3 which work for me and the concerns I have for my skin. The first, which I absolutely love and adore and is my go to for daily moisturising is Murad's Anti-Aging Moisturiser. I use the one for Blemish Prone skin as it's not that heavy or sticky - important for us who are acne prone and stay in the warmer parts of the world. Alternatively, SK-II's Cellumination Deep Surge EX is a good light-weight yet intense moisturiser, which works to even out skin tone and lighten any blemishes or dark spots you may have. Typically use this in the evening as well when the skin is more receptive to absorbing it's bountiful benefits. Lastly, for night's when I wish to opt for a richer [and inexpensive] treat for my skin, I use the Olay Regenerist Revitalising Night Cream.

Phew! That was one long post eh? Well I hope this sheds some light into what is a good and comprehensive skin care regimen - at least when it comes to taking care of my skin. It seems like it's a lot of extra effort but honestly it's been worth it. Your skin is the first thing that people see and if you don't take care of it, it will show - which is why sufficient time is warranted to actually care for it. As said, the above steps are based on what works for me and if you must pick and choose I would recommend going for the basics of cleansing and moisturising regularly. Coupled with regular exercise, lots of water and sleep - your skin should be rearing to go, healthy as ever!
