Season's Round Up # 4: VERSACE SPRING SUMMER 2013 MENSWEAR
Bathrobes, pastel colors, sexy swimwear, classic Versace prints, bedazzled shirts and over-styled sneakers - these are just some of the highlights from the Versace Spring-Summer 2013 Menswear Collection. I must say this was a very whimsical show, in the sense that the collection evoked a very gladiator-like theme all throughout - from the flowing robes similar to those worn by boxers before they enter the ring, to the ginormous belt that looked like a boxer's winner's medal to the over-styled sneakers and gladiator sandals. Even the oversized floral prints used can be linked to the flowers thrown at THE victor in an old Roman gladiator fight to the finish.
What I loved about it is that in spite of the seemingly tough theme, the colors, materials used and bedazzled accessories provided a softer look, which is perfect for spring or summer seasons - from the billowy robes with classic Versace prints, to the tough whites used, minty greens and bright fuchsia. Dare I say, Donatella must have been inspired by the recently concluded pop culture phenomena - the Hunger Games film - with the amalgamation of toughness in the inspiration and use of bright colors in the execution.
I honestly think that this was an excellent collection to launch for the upcoming season. It'll definitely be interesting to see tough men all dolled-up for a change [lol!]. As for me, I've got half a mind to keep an eye out for a few of the pieces in the collection, notable of which would be the floral printed shirts & jackets I've seen. As well as some of the loafers you see the guys wearing in the gray/minty hued looks above. Time to add it to the list of things to buy for the 2013 season and just cut away when that list becomes far too long ;)
