Season's Round Up # 35: BURBERRY PRORSUM SPRING-SUMMER 2013
I didn’t care much for Burberry Prorsum’s SS2013 Menswear Collection as I felt subdued compared to the past few collections. But I think Mr. Bailey has redeemed himself [at least in my eyes] with an over the top amazing collection for SS2013 RTW Women’s.
Metallic still played dominantly in this collection, yet it was used sparsely as a key accent, done so via small pops of metallic accessories or layered with skin in his more summer-y pieces or as he paired them plain hued, yet eye-catching cuts. Of course, much like in the men’s show you’ll still see trenches and the highlight if I can say so myself - capes [OMG, the capes! Yes I’m repeating myself and raving about it] in foil shades of fuchsia, raspberry, maroon and gold, green and cerulean. They looked so delicate, yet powerful as if spun from fine strands of metallic jewel toned shades. Going back to the capes that I’m still raving about – this is somewhat new from the label and I adored the variations that came down the runway – from the sweet petite renditions perched on shoulders in short lengths or to the more grandeur pieces that fell all the way down to your knees. Volume was another key theme this season where we see the coats and jackets with huge bell sleeves, mimicking the shape of the skirts that it was paired with. The show was as rich and luxurious as it can get – establishing a trend we will likely see run down the streets of London next summer. Rest assured London will surely have shining beacons of light through the rainy days with Bailey’s ethereal collection.
